About Curios and Oddities

We are not born, but rather we become

Welcome to Curios and Oddities.

Thanks for stopping by.

Curios and Oddities is the blog of an omnivore. Here, you’ll find the roving thoughts of Udo Blick’s thoughts, musings and obsessions on film, music, reading and the occasional spot on politics and current affairs.

This site is also dedicated to exploring Udo’s fascination with otherness and the ways in which we choose to be with forms of otherness. As you will see, this fascination has been manifested in a variety of ways. Individual postings will explore how we relate to difference and the many faces of otherness and how this has been represented in popular culture, books, films and music.

For example, the reader will see pages dedicated to Udo’s love of the Western (and to Sam Peckinpah in particular).

I hope you enjoy these pages.

Udo Blick

    Hi Priscilla,

Anything with Beardsley on it is going to get my vote.

I might take issue with the notion that the undead didn’t stalk the human imagination before Stoker .- I bet the first member of homo sapiens who popped his clogs was considered by his mates to be hanging about in the woods!…

I think it’s great that you’ve got this site up and running .It looks good – the Nazis knew the power of white , black and red! lol Good luck with it .I’m looking forward to dropping by and seeing articles about the Western —

      Hi Tony,

Great to hear from you and thanks!

Beardsley? I was channeling thoughts of vampire and zombies on something I was working on, when it occured to me that Beardsley worked on several versions of Salome. Don’t know why or how vampires and zombies segued into Salome though….

Oh, thanks – I was tinkering around with the look of the pages after the whole thing had collapsed on me. Again. Am most definitely not a techno-head and I’m learning as I go along but I think this latest version of the site looks….how shall I say, pleasant. ;) Always did love those colours!

      best wishes,

      Priscilla
